Torquay eased their relegation fears at the bottom of League Two as they brushed aside rock-bottom Darlington.
Mark Ellis put the visitors ahead when he volleyed into the roof of the net from a corner and Eunan O'Kane ran clear to make it 2-0 before the break.
Curtis Main pulled a goal back from close range when Torquay keeper Scott Bevan could not keep hold of the ball.
But, with five minutes left, Mustapha Carayol made sure of the Gulls' victory with a volley from eight yards out.
Torquay United boss Paul Buckle talks to BBC Radio Devon:
"Avery difficult game, we paid them the full respect and worked hard in training.
"We showed great character to march on and get a third.
"I felt once we went to 2-1, we really did start to press the ball and showed some urgency."
