Danny Hylton hit the only goal as Aldershot ended Chesterfield's six-game winning streak to get their own play-off campaign back on track.
Spireites keeper Tommy Lee kept out Anthony Straker's long-range strike before Stephen Henderson saved a Drew Talbot header and an Adam Rundle shot.
The Shots then struck when Hylton headed home Scott Donnelly's cross.
Scott Boden and Goodall went close to equalising, but the Shots held on to claim their second win in eight games.
It also ended fourth-placed Chesterfield's run of six straight league wins.
Chesterfield manager John Sheridan told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"It's very disappointing. I would have loved to have won as we'd have found ourselves in the top two.
"We are all down at the moment.
"I just don't think we got started first half. We were very flat, which should never have been the case."
Aldershot manager Kevin Dillon told BBC Surrey: "That'll be in the top two or three performances since I've been here. Chesterfield are a good side, difficult to beat.
"We were solid in midfield. There was good consistency there. And the bench was as strong as it's ever been.
"They all did a job. They all did what they were told."
