Hereford manager John Trewick saw red as his side stumbled to defeat over promotion chasers Northampton.
The home boss was sent to the stands by referee Graham Salisbury for arguing with his linesman before the break.
Salisbury had earlier riled Trewick when he ruled out a Hereford 'goal' after Lee Morris's close-range finish.
Northampton took the lead when Billy McKay fired low into the corner from 15 yards and Adebayo Akinfenwa continued the Cobblers' play-off push with a lob.
Hereford manager John Trewick told BBC Hereford and Worcester:
"It ended up being a poor performance after the second goal although I don't think there was much to choose between the two teams in the first half.
"We were just starting to get into the game when we gave away a a soft goal and it knocks the stuffing out of you.
"We tried to regroup in he second half without getting into any stride, and the second goal was a knock-out, another poor goal from our points of view."
Northampton Town manager Ian Sampson tells BBC Radio Northampton:
"I think it was an extension on the performance from Saturday, but I think we showed a bit more professionalism.
"We were tight when we didn't have the ball, and after two defeats, we've kept the belief.
"We're getting results as well as being entertaining."
