Clayton Donaldson scored a late winner as Crewe sealed victory at Burton.
After a delayed start because of injury to the referee, Shaun Miller steered in the opener from a Luke Murphy pass.
The lead lasted one minute as Burton skipper John McGrath fed the ball through for Shaun Harrad to lash home his 12th of the season from 15 yards.
Harrad hit a post and forced keeper Steve Phillips into a fine save before substitute Donaldson poked in the vital goal after a fine run by Byron Moore.
