Burton recovered after conceding two goals in the opening 15 minutes to clinch a fine 3-2 victory at Torquay.
Chris Zebroski's accurate cross was nodded in by Scott Rendell and Chris Robertson turned in Adam Smith's cross-cum-shot as the Gulls started brightly.
But Russell Penn fired in from 25 yards before half time and Shaun Harrad's 20-yard strike after the interval brought the Brewers level.
Cleveland Taylor then skipped through the home defence to score the winner.
Torquay United manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Devon:
"We're bitterly disappointed, we found ourselves in a commanding position at 2-0 and in the end it's three very good strikes that have undone us.
"Three great strikes and three goals, but we've got ourselves to blame we were in a strong position and we let it slip."
"I said to the players let's not scream and shout and lose our heads, let's look at it on the DVD and we'll speak about it tomorrow."
