Bury continued their push for promotion as an early Mike Jones free-kick set up a nervy victory over lowly Hereford.
The Shakers took the lead when Jones hit the top corner after the visitors were penalised for a foul on Ryan Lowe.
Bury dominated, with Dave Worrall heading over a Stephen Dawson cross before Dawson dragged an effort wide.
Hereford had their chances, Leon Constantine going close from 12 yards and then forcing a fine late save from goalkeeper Wayne Brown with a header.
Hereford manager John Trewick told BBC Hereford and Worcester:
"I am very annoyed with the referee as it was clearly not a foul for the free kick from which they scored.
"For me Craig King was fouled for a penalty when he was going through while Leon Constantine had his shirt pulled when he was having a headed attempt at goal from five or six yards out.
"I just feel hard done by again although I feel like I am having a moan again, which I am."
