Aldershot twice fought off a comeback to secure what was ultimately an emphatic win at Dagenham & Redbridge.
Anthony Charles headed the visitors into the lead before then handling in his own box to allow Mark Arber to equalise from the penalty spot.
Andy Sandell volleyed Aldershot ahead before Seth Ofori-Twumasi equalised.
Marvin Morgan put the visitors back in front again and this time they were able to see it out, Marlon Jackson and Louie Soares adding further goals.
Dagenham and Redbridge manager John Still told BBC Essex:
"I thought we looked a little bit disjointed. I thought the discipline we usually play with was missing.
"In fairness to them they played very well and we've had two very poor games this season, away at Barnet and this result against Aldershot."
Shots boss Kevin Dillon told BBC Surrey:
"I thought the pitch was superb. It suited us.
"We like to play a passing game, based on a solid defence, and I think that's been the key since I came to the club.
"The two centre halves are the leaders of the team for me - Chris Blackburn and Anthony Charles - they are the main men holding things together.
"And the full-backs have been exceptional as well. That gives you a basis to work from and that includes the keeper.
"The difference tonight was Lewis Chalmers. He got on the ball, and switched play and moved them around."
