Bradford ended a run of five games without a win with a comfortable victory which leaves Grimsby struggling in the League Two relegation zone.
Simon Whaley made it 1-0 with a low shot from outside the area on his first start since his loan move from Norwich.
Steve Williams got a faint touch to a backward header from Grimsby's Damien McCrory to make it two.
And a miserable night for the Mariners was compounded when James Hanson fired past Nick Colgan.
Bradford City manager Stuart McCall told BBC Radio Leeds:
"Obviously three points first and foremost, clean sheet and three goals - so it was pleasing.
"It was vital we got the first goal and I think in the first half [Simon] Eastwood has had one good save from a corner, but apart from that we did well.
"We needed three points tonight, - we emphasised that and if we want to have any ambitions this season, then we've got to come to teams at the bottom and win."
