A burst of two goals in two second-half minutes moved Rochdale up to second place in League Two and knocked leaders Dagenham & Redbridge down to third.
Peter Gain headed the Daggers in front from Danny Green's third-minute cross.
But after the hosts had dominated for 70 minutes, Kallum Higginbotham levelled with an angled drive and Craig Dawson poked home following a corner.
Daggers substitute Wesley Thomas was then sent off for a late challenge on Chris Dagnall in stoppage time.
It was harsh on Dagenham, who will rue the chances they missed in the first half as Josh Scott was foiled by a superb save from Dale keeper Tom Heaton, Will Antwi hit the post from close range and Paul Benson had a penalty claim waved away after he was brought down by Chris O'Grady.
Dagnall also had an effort ruled out for offside as the Daggers suffered their first home defeat of the season.
Dagenham and Redbridge assistant manager, Terry Harris told BBC Essex:
"We really should have been out of sight. The first half performance was one of our best of the season.
"Rochdale didn't even come into our penalty box for 45 minutes. But it was down to us on the day."
