Curtis Main grabbed the only goal of the game as rock-bottom Darlington secured only their second league win of the season against Burton Albion.
The teenage striker scored the crucial goal after just six minutes, firing into the corner from a quick free kick.
Richard Walker's header almost drew the visitors level and Steve Foster then blocked Jacques Maghoma's shot.
But Darlington also saw Danny Groves's shot cleared off the line as they held on for a precious three points.
Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido tells BBC Radio Derby:
"I felt we bossed it, we were the much better team but just unlucky on the day.
"We created enough opportunities and enough chances. I think the players were all frustrated we didn't capitalise.
"It's when you're not creating chances that we'll panic."
