Calvin Zola inspired Crewe to an emphatic victory as Cheltenham drew a blank in their quest for a first home win since the opening day.
Zola opened the scoring with a header before Steven Schumacher stretched Crewe's lead with a low drive.
Danny Shelley made it three with 21 minutes remaining and then turned provider for Zola four minutes later.
The Robins were left to rue missed chances after Julian Alsop, Frankie Artus and David Bird hit the woodwork.
Cheltenham Town caretaker manager John Schofield told BBC Radio Gloucestershire:
"It's always disappointing to get beat, especially at home.
"We're looking for consistency over the season, to build on last week's performance and unfortunately we've not been able to.
"The lads have tried to keep going all the way to the end."
Crewe interim manager Dario Gradi told BBC Radio Stoke:
"We defended much better in the second half because there was far too much excitement in my box first half.
"It was a real attacking game on a good pitch and there was plenty of good football because they were trying to play too.
"It was good to see the young lads improving, Danny Shelley kept on going and was rewarded with his goal".
