High-flying Bournemouth survived a second-half Grimsby fightback to secure the win and stay at the table summit.
Alan Connell burst through and curled in a cracker for the Cherries to score his first league goal for 18 months.
A second soon followed with Brett Pitman's cross turned into his own net by Paul Linwood, but Grimsby hit back.
Linwood's looping header had Grimsby sniffing an unlikely point but Bournemouth made sure when Pitman scored with a dazzling bicycle kick.
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Solent:
"We played ever so well, played some good football, and moved the ball well.
"We always knew the third goal was going to be crucial and unfortunately they got it, so it was a bit of a battle but I am delighted with another good win.
"To have options on the bench was fantastic. I had an array of choices and as a manager that's what you want."
