Torquay came from behind to ensure Morecambe had to settle for a ninth draw in 13 league games.
The Gulls went ahead when Nicky Wroe blasted the ball in from the penalty spot following a foul at a corner.
Morecambe winger Mark Duffy's lovely low shot levelled the scores and the visitors made it 2-1 through Paul Mullin's shot just after the break.
But substitute Wayne Carlisle met Tim Sills' left-wing cross to head home the equaliser on 53 minutes.
Torquay United manager Paul Buckle told BBC Radio Devon:
"They certainly had more chances than I would have liked, so credit to them, but I think a draw was probably a fair result in the end.
"We weren't quite at our best today, we're honest enough to say that, but we didn't lose and we've come out of the bottom two which is very encouraging."
"We did make life difficult for ourselves at times, we should have just cleared our lines because you have to do the basics right."
