Rotherham were left ruing a host of missed chances as Hereford snatched a late equaliser at Don Valley Stadium.
Despite creating a number of chances Rotherham had only Adam Le Fondre's coolly slotted goal - his 10th of the season - to show for their efforts.
Hereford's Mark Marshall should have equalised but somehow managed to screw his shot from six yards wide of goal.
With a minute to go the Bulls did grab the leveller when substitute Gavin McCallum lashed in a close-range shot.
Rotherham manager Ronnie Moore told BBC Radio Sheffield:
"How we weren't four up at half time, we should have been out of sight.
"I know they had a little bit of pressure in the second half, but our keeper hasn't had a save to make.
"No disrespect to Hereford, but they are the kind of team we should be beating here."
Hereford manager John Trewick told BBC Hereford and Worcester:
"In the first half we never got started and the first 20 minutes was very pedestrian and lacking in spirit and fight.
"I don't know why but we managed to keep it down to one at half time.
"We knew exactly what we had to do in the second half to try and retrieve the situation and credit to the players they did it."
