Rochdale increased the pressure on Hereford boss John Trewick with an emphatic victory at Spotland.
After Chris Dagnell put Dale ahead Mark Pugh equalised from close range, but in stoppage time on-loan winger Simon Whaley finished off a clinical counter.
Will Buckley made it absolutely certain with a late header, and defender Craig Dawson's fine finish made it four.
Hereford, who sit fourth bottom in the table, saw Ryan Green sent off late on for a second bookable offence.
