Northampton ended Bournemouth's 100% start to the season with goals from Adebayo Akinfenwa and Ben Marshall.
The Cobblers went ahead after six minutes when Akinfenwa converted Marshall's low cross - before having to leave the field injured.
Brett Pitman squandered Bournemouth's best chances either side of the break, Chris Dunn saving on both occasions.
And Marshall wrapped up the win on 85 minutes when he tapped in after Shwan Jalal saved well from Billy McKay.
Northampton Town manager Stuart Gray told BBC Radio Northampton:
"All credit to the players, it was a great team performance.
"The crowd were fantastic again, because they saw the commitment from the players.
"We don't seem to be getting any tap-ins at the moment, we seem to be scoring decent goals. And when we needed Chris Dunn to pull off some decent saves, he's done that for us."
Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe told BBC Radio Solent:
"On another day if we had taken our chances we could have got back in the game
"I think the scorel was a little harsh on us, but we'll learn our lessons, dusts ourselves off and go again
"We could have done better with both (goals) I think. We'll have to review the tape and have a look at them."
