Burton produced a dominant display to earn an impressive away win at Lincoln.
Ryan Austin netted a simple first-half header to set them on their way - he was left unmarked at the far post and planted his header in from six yards.
Burton almost added a second goal when first Greg Pearson and Jimmy Phillips had shots saved by keeper Rob Burch.
Burch saved Lincoln again when he pushed out a header from Guy Branston, but Burton substitute Russell Penn made it 2-0 with a superb lob from 25 yards.
Lincoln City manager Peter Jackson told BBC Radio Lincolnshire:
"It was a poor performance, particularly in the first half today. Three points and we'd be sitting joint top of the table but it wasn't to be.
"We had five players missing and a lot of youngsters out there but I'm not blaming it on them, it was just a performance that not many players can take credit from.
"Hopefully we can turn it round but it's still early days, it's important that people around me don't panic, we take it on the chin and move on."
Burton Albion manager Paul Peschisolido told BBC Radio Derby:
"The first-half, I thought we were superb. We were controlled, the front men didn't stop running.
"We were resilient. We asked players to take more responsibility defending, and they certainly did that.
