Danny Green scored a brace as Dagenham & Redbridge overpowered Torquay.
Peter Gain's volley put the home side ahead before Green drilled in a low 25-yard shot and then cut in from the wing to shoot high into the net.
Nicky Wroe slotted in a penalty for Toquay but a Josh Scott backheel put the Daggers 4-1 up.
An Elliot Benyon header and Mustapha Carayol shot saw Torquay restore some pride to the scoreline only for Wes Thomas to add Dagenham's fifth.
Dagenham and Redbridge first-team coach Wayne Burnett told BBC Essex:
"It was a real nervy last six or seven minutes of the game but Wes Thomas popped up and scored right at the death and at the end it was a well earned victory, which I thought we made hard work of.
"Our attacking play was very exciting, a little naive in our defensive play but we'll look at that.
"Scoring five goals is a feat in itself and if we can continue to attack in the way in which we've done we'll be ok."
