The League Two title is already on its way to Brentford, while Chester are all but certain to join Luton in losing their Football League status - but there are three teams fighting for two promotion places, and one final play-off spot to be decided.
Wycombe, Exeter and Bury are challenging for two automatic promotion spots - while Dagenham & Redbridge and Shrewsbury are involved in a winner-takes-all shoot-out for the final play-off place.
BBC Sport outlines the permutations for the final day of the 2008/09 season.
AUTOMATIC PROMOTION
Brentford have already won the League Two title - and will be joined by two from Wycombe, Exeter and Bury.
KEY FIXTURES
Bury v Accrington
Rotherham v Exeter
Wycombe v Notts County
Wycombe will be promoted if they avoid defeat against Notts County. Even if the Chairboys lose, they will be promoted unless both Exeter and Bury win, with Bury needing to make up a three-goal swing in goal difference.
Exeter will be promoted if they win at Rotherham, or if they match Bury's result.
Bury will be promoted if they win and either Wycombe lose (with a three-goal swing in goal difference) or Exeter fail to win. The Shakers will also go up if they draw and Exeter lose.
PLAY-OFFS
The unsuccessful team from Wycombe, Exeter and Bury (see above) will enter the play-offs, along with Gillingham and Rochdale.
KEY FIXTURE
Dagenham & Redbridge v Shrewsbury
The final place is between Dagenham & Redbridge and Shrewsbury, with the Daggers holding a two-point lead going into the final day - when the two teams meet at Victoria Road.
The arithmetic is simple - a Daggers win or a draw will see them secure sixth place, while only a Shrewsbury win would see the Shropshire club cement seventh place instead.
Luton are already relegated, and only a mathematical improbability sill save Chester from joining them.
KEY FIXTURES
Chester v Darlington
Grimsby v Macclesfield
Chester trail Grimsby by three points going into the final day, but their goal difference is worse by a factor of 19.
So while Chester's Football League status has not been formally extinguished, only the unfeasible combination of a Chester win and a Grimsby defeat with a 19-goal swing in goal difference can prevent them from dropping out of the League.
