Exeter's automatic promotion hopes must go to the last game of the season after Morecambe snatched a late equaliser.
Stewart Drummond's thumping header put Morecambe ahead only for the Grecians to then turn the game on its head with two goals in four minutes.
First Dean Moxey rounded keeper Barry Roche to level and then Ryan Harley cut in from the left to fire Exeter ahead.
But Drummond levelled 11 minutes from time with his second, diverting Michael Twiss's well-delivered free-kick.
Exeter City manager Paul Tisdale told BBC Radio Devon:
"I thought it was a very good game of football, against good opposition, and we've got a good chance for next week.
"In the first 15-20 minutes after the break we really gave it a go, got our two goals, and we're disappointed to concede a goal with 10 minutes to go."
