Simeon Jackson's second-half penalty earned promotion-chasing Gillingham a point at League Two leaders Brentford.
David Hunt put the home side ahead just before the interval with a fierce free-kick that flew past keeper Simon Royce.
Jackson then had a goal ruled out for a foul but he did level matters from the spot after the break when Karleigh Osborne felled Andy Barcham.
The Bees piled forward in search of a winner and both Sam Wood and Billy Clarke saw shots go narrowly over.
Worryingly for the home side leading scorer Charlie MacDonald was taken off on a stretcher late on with a shoulder injury.
