Pawel Abbott's fourth goal of the season was enough to hand Darlington all three points and keep their League Two play-off hopes alive.
Barnet had numerous chances to score but found Darlington keeper Andy Oakes in unbeatable form as he twice foiled ex-Chelsea forward Paul Furlong.
Abbott struck against the run of play when he turned Danny Carlton's loose ball home from close range.
Robert Purdie cleared off the line from Ismail Yakubu as the visitors clung on.
