A wicked deflection helped Adam Rundle's 20-yard strike wrong-foot Mariners keeper Wayne Henderson.

Rundle then released Adam Le Fondre who raced clear to score while Grimsby's defenders appealed for offside.

Town's Adrian Forbes had a shot tipped onto the bar before boss Mike Newell was sent to the stands at half-time for arguing about Dale's second goal.
