Richard Walker's early goal was enough to seal a vital win for Shrewsbury against a spirited Darlington, who created the bulk of the chances.

Walker, on loan from Bristol Rovers, slotted in from close-range after skipper Ben Davies' effort was blocked.

But Darlington rallied well with striker Pawel Abbott twice being denied after the break by keeper Luke Daniels.

Shrewsbury might have added a second in the first half, but Davies planted his header straight at Dean Gerken.
