Dennis Oli was the match-winner for Gillingham as they snatched a deserved win against Accrington at Priestfield.
Oli broke through a stubborn Accrington defence with 15 minutes to go as he turned debutant Charlie Daniels' cross past keeper Kenny Arthur.
The Gills dominated possession and chances but struggled to find a way past an in-form Arthur.
Simeon Jackson was denied by the keeper, while Stanley's best chance was a John Miles shot saved by Simon Royce.
