Chester's dreadful start to the new season continued as they slipped to defeat at home to Wycombe.
John Mousinho opened the scoring in the 26th minute when a long ball from Craig Woodman fell to the striker who lifted it over stranded keeper John Danby.
Chester twice went close in the second half through Ryan Lowe.
Wycombe struck again to seal the points after 66 minutes when Scott McGleish scored from the spot after Laurence Wilson had fouled Chris Zebroski.
City boss Simon Davies told BBC Radio Merseyside: "Goals change games and unfortunately both goals came when we were on top.
"I thought we were quite comfortable. I'm standing there enjoying the game for once after a troublesome week and it's one punt down the middle again."
