Chester and Macclesfield brought their League Two campaigns to a close with a goalless draw at the Deva Stadium.
In a match where pride was the main motivating factor, Chester created the better chances, Richie Partridge firing over from 18 yards on 10 minutes.
John Rooney hit the bar with a free-kick for the visitors, but Chester dominated the derby after the break.
Paul Rutherford shot over and Partridge thought he had scored only to see Jonny Brain scramble his chip over the bar.
