Scott McGleish scored the vital goal which secured a place in the play-offs for Wycombe and leave Chester in serious danger of the drop.
The home side broke the deadlock 12 minutes from time when McGleish slotted home from close range.
Delroy Facey almost gave Wycombe the lead on 60 minutes, but his shot smashed against the post.
Stefan Oakes also struck the post with 20 minutes left, before McGleish pounced to secure the points.
