Wrexham plunged closer to non-league football as local rivals Shrewsbury secured their first win in 16 games.
A long ball from Colin Murdock was headed in by Kevin McIntyre after a dreadful error from keeper Gavin Ward.
The Dragons succumbed to another short range header, Darren Moss unchallenged on the end of Marc Tierney's cross.
Ward saved a Dave Hibbert penalty after Simon Spender's foul on substitute James Constable, but the replacement followed up to complete the rout.
While Shrewsbury's relegation concerns would now seem to be behind them, Wrexham still flounder at the foot of League Two.
The Dragons are nine points from safety with just four games remaining, meaning their 87-year stay in the Football League is nearly at an end.
