Kevin Gallen missed a great last-minute chance to move MK Dons clear at the top as Peterborough battled for a draw in front of a record crowd.
Aaron Wilbraham gave the Dons the lead when he struck from eight yards after good work by Jemal Johnson on the wing.
Chris Whelpdale got the better of Mark Wright and headed Dean Keates's cross past Willy Gueret for the equaliser.
Veteran striker Gallen then scuffed the best chance of the match when he failed the hit the target from close range.
