New Macclesfield manager Keith Alexander was denied a dream start by a late goal from free-scoring Notts County midfielder Richard Butcher.

Gareth Evans picked out the unmarked Izak Reid at the far post and he drilled home a neat 10-yard half-volley to put the Cheshire ahead.

Keeper John Brain then kept Macc's lead intact with a block to deny Paul Mayo.

But he was left wrong-footed in the 72nd minute when Butcher scored with a lucky looping volley from 20 yards.
