Mark Hudson's goal gave Rotherham their fifth league win in a row. Hudson had plenty of time to collect Stephen Brogan's ball in from the left and fire past Ian Dunbavin.
Keeper Dunbavin then produced a fine save with his legs to deny Hudson and was in the thick of the action again as Chris O'Grady and Brogan went close.
Stanley, who have only won three home games this season, piled on the pressure in the last 10 minutes but Rotherham held on.
