Pressure mounted on Wrexham boss Brian Carey after a Michael Symes strike condemned the Dragons to their fourth straight defeat. The result keeps Wrexham in the bottom two, but ends a run of seven games without a win for the Shrews.
Symes got the only goal on 59 minutes sending a low right-footed shot past Anthony Williams from 12 yards out.
Robbie Garrett came close for the home side but his effort was saved by keeper Glyn Garner.
