Drissa Diallo's 89th-minute winner handed MK Dons their third successive victory and ended Darlington's unbeaten start to the season. MK Dons dominated from start to finish and Dean Lewington and Aaron Wilbraham went close to opening the scoring.
But the hosts' frustration grew as Diallo failed to scoring with a header.
Then Diallo headed in from a long throw-in to finally break the Quakers' dogged resistance and rob Dave Penney's men of a fourth successive clean sheet.
