Chester produced a storming second-half performance, scoring four goals to see off Dagenham and Redbridge. Simon Yeo broke the deadlock, chipping the ball past Daggers keeper Tony Roberts from Kevin Ellison's pass.
Yeo doubled the lead, tapping in Richie Partridge's cross, before John Murphy followed up to score the third after Tony Roberts saved from Ellison.
Murphy rounded off the scoring with a diving far-post header from Partridge's inviting cross.
