Defences dominated at the Deva Stadium as Chester and Chesterfield played out a goalless draw. Chester's Mark Hughes came close with a long-range drive in the early stages, but chances were limited in an uneventful first-half.
Jamie Ward missed a chance for the Spireites, but screwed his shot wide from 12 yards.
Simon Yeo came close to snatching a winner for Chester late on but could not steer his shot inside the post.
