Defeat at Rochdale left struggling Accrington hovering dangerously above the Conference relegation places. Adam Rundle bundled Rochdale ahead and Glenn Murray headed the second from Ben Muirhead's free-kick.
Murray made it three, then saw his penalty saved before Paul Mullin's header pulled one back for Stanley.
Adam Le Fondre converted Dale's second penalty after Murray was fouled, with Andrew Mangan claiming a late consolation goal.
