A last-minute Lee Thorpe penalty earned Torquay a precious point in their fight against relegation at Chester. The hosts controlled the majority of the game and led through Dean Bennett's second-half goal, which he fired home low having met Laurence Wilson's cross.
Chester should have sealed the points but Wilson volleyed wide and forced a fine save from Simon Raynor and Royce Brownlie missed from just four yards.
And Bennett's foul on Matt Hockley in the box gave Torquay late salvation.
