An early goal from Andy Monkhouse was enough to give Hartlepool victory at Notts County. The winger, on-loan from Swindon, reacted quickest to stab home from close range after Willie Boland's corner was not cleared.
Boland tested County goalkeeper Kevin Pilkington in the opening seconds of the match and striker Darryl Duffy saw a first-time effort go just wide.
County's Alan White saw his header saved by Dimitrios Konstantopoulos.
