Alan Connell's goal proved enough for Hereford to beat winless Macclesfield. The striker's winner came in the 80th minute when he swivelled and drilled a shot home from the edge of the box.
But the Bulls did not have it all their own way, with Wayne Brown making a series of fine saves early on and Matt Tipton going close after the break.
At the other end Stuart Fleetwood swept past two defenders but his angled shot was well covered by Tommy Lee in the Macclesfield goal.
