Matt Derbyshire made an immediate impact with two goals on his Wrexham debut after joining on a month's loan from Blackburn Rovers. The 19-year-old striker scored twice in the first half to increase the pressure on bottom-of-the-table Rushden.
Derbyshire had already troubled Rushden goalkeeper Scott Tynan before poking home Matt Crowell's left-wing cross.
The youngster's second was all his own work, driving forward and curling the ball into the top left of the net.
