Relegation-threatened Swindon battled to a point against 10-man Hartlepool.
Robins keeper Phil Smith was called into the line-up 30 minutes before the game after regular number one David Lucas was injured during the warm-up.
Smith promptly gifted Pool the lead when he threw straight to Evan Horwood who gratefully sidefooted home.
Gary Liddle picked up a straight red card for a foul on Paul Caddis, and the hosts took advantage when Matt Ritchie headed in Caddis' cross.
Despite the point, Swindon are six points off Dagenham & Redbridge in 20th place and have played at least a game more than every team up to 15th in the table.
Hartlepool could not take advantage of Carlisle's break from league action and remain in 14th place.
Swindon manager Paul Hart told BBC Wiltshire:
"I don't know how we didn't win, we've had chances. They've done everything, worked hard, put everything into the game.
"You can't legislate for the goal that they've scored.
"You have to pick yourself up and get on with it and I thought the lads did that."
