MK Dons' five-match winning run came to an end as they were held by Walsall.
Matt Richards' 29th-minute volley on the rebound gave the Saddlers a half-time lead after home keeper David Martin had blocked Julian Gray's shot.
But Peter Leven's cheeky penalty stretched the Dons' unbeaten run to eight games.
After Luke Chadwick had been tripped by Manny Smith six minutes into the second half, Leven lept his cool from the spot, dinking the ball down the middle.
Both sides hit the woodwork looking for a winner.
Gray blasted a 25-yard drive against the crossbar for Walsall, while Dons substitute Angelo Balanta somehow hit the bar from just four yards late on.
Walsall included new on-loan midfielder Marc Laird for his first start, while fellow new signing Jordan Cook came off the bench.
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson tells BBC Three Counties Radio: "I thought we did enough to win two games. We missed chance after chance after chance.
"It was an incredible game. I don't think they created anything. If we had won that game 4-1 people would be saying 'what a great performance'.
"I want to take the positives out of the game. It was a great turnout of fans, plus with all that we are unbeaten through the month of March. I'm thoroughly pleased."
