Inigo Calderon's strike ensured League One leaders Brighton edged out resolute Notts County to stretch their advantage at the top of the table to 10 points.
The Seagulls had the better of the first half with Chris Wood twice going close and keeper Stuart Nelson making a fine stop to deny Elliott Bennett.
The visitors went close through a fine David Martin shot after a mazy run.
But substitute Craig Noone showed great trickery to tee up Calderon to slide in the winner after the break.
Calderon's effort also took Brighton 12 points clear of third-place Southampton, who could only draw 1-1 at Charlton Athletic.
For Notts County, it was a third consecutive defeat despite a much-improved performance.
Brighton manager Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex: "We tried to use Craig Noone at the right time, and his performance gave me complications to pick the side on Saturday - I like that.
"I'm very pleased for Sandaza as I know how hard it is to sit on the bench and not play, but I'm delighted for him.
"Adam El-Abd picked up a hamstring injury but it doesn't look too bad, but now it's another opportunity for Tommy Elphick to play maybe until the end of the season."
Notts County boss Paul Ince told BBC Radio Nottingham: "I think we started slowly but after that we kept them quiet.
"I thought we coped with them very well but then in the second half we switched off.
"That's frustrating because it was a fantastic performance - you wouldn't have known the difference between the two sides."
