Gary Alexander and Toumani Diagouraga both fired wide from 20 yards for the Bees in a quiet first half.
Joey Gudjonsson dragged two efforts, including an overhead kick, wide as the visitors pressed after the break.
And when Danny Cadamarteri's header was cleared off the line, Clarke was on hand to smash in the winner.
