Huddersfield moved to within a point of an automatic promotion place after securing victory over Rochdale.
Jordan Rhodes saw his shot blocked but the ball fell to Benik Afobe, who tapped in to put the home side ahead.
Gary Roberts chipped in from the edge of the area to double the lead for the Terriers, who later lost Anthony Pilkington to a suspected broken leg.
Will Atkinson drove a shot against the post for Dale, but Gary Jones did fire in a consolation deep into injury-time.
Huddersfield Town manager Lee Clark told BBC Radio Leeds: "He (Anthony Pilkington) was taken away in an ambulance so I don't know the full extent, but we do know it's a really bad one.
"It's hit everyone hard - I had a couple of my players emotionally drained with tears in their eyes and there were even a couple of lads from the opposition who were the same.
"It was innocuous - Anthony's worked as hard as ever to try to retrieve the ball and the next thing you know it's just a horrific injury.
"It's taken the gloss off tonight, the result pales into insignificance for us."
