Elliott Bennett's goal was enough for League One leaders Brighton as they eventually overcame stubborn Yeovil.
The winger picked up a clearance on the edge of the box and fired a sweet low strike into the bottom corner.
Chris Wood had a shot well saved by Stephen Henderson after the break, and the keeper denied Adam El-Abd from close range as Albion poured forward.
Bennett rattled a shot off the post via a deflection before Andrew Williams missed a sitter from six yards.
Yeovil Town manager Terry Skiverton told BBC Somerset: "I think we've closed the gap especially against the big boys with the draw against Sheffield Wednesday and losing to Charlton by the odd goal.
"We've got to take chances in the box and the two headers we had, we've got to score goals to put pressure on those kinds of teams."
"Decisions went against us, I thought it was a stonewall penalty and so did everyone else in the stadium."
Brighton boss Gus Poyet told BBC Sussex: "We knew it would be very difficult. It was a complicated game because of the opposition, the pitch and the style of game.
"It was all about doing the business and I'm pleased for the players. They felt they didn't do enough against MK Dons to win, so credit to them. Overall I think we deserved to win.
"We've got two games in hand. If we win the games and maintain the record we have this season I'm not really bothered about the rest."
