MK Dons ended Brighton's five-game unbeaten run in the league with a narrow victory.
The Dons dominated the visitors in the first half and went ahead when Daniel Powell tapped in at the far post after a goalmouth scramble.
Chris Wood had Brighton's best chance in the second half but keeper David Martin pulled off a superb double save.
The hosts went down to 10 men when Sean O'Hanlon received his second yellow card but they held on to claim the win.
MK Dons manager Karl Robinson tells BBC Three Counties Radio: "The way we passed and moved the ball was magnificent and a joy to watch. At times it's exhilarating to think that some of these young players are playing that much football.
"I have got no complaints with the sending off [of O'Hanlon]. He made a foul a couple of minutes before that he maybe could have gone then as well.
"With all the pressure they had, and the extra man, I don't recall them carving us open, which was a pleasing thing as well."
Brighton manager Gus Poyet tells BBC Sussex: "We lost the game ourselves and we missed a great chance to add points to the table.
"Normally we keep good consistency but today we didn't and if it's one person it's easy to change, but when it's the whole team it is complicated.
"We arrived late in taxis but this is no excuse, it's not nice but it's no excuse."
