Leon Legge's last-minute winner saw Brentford edge past Tranmere in a hard-fought encounter.
The Bees went ahead after just 75 seconds when Charlie MacDonald's glancing header went in off the angle.
Tranmere nearly scored through John Welsh's free-kick, which was tipped wide by Richard Lee, before Joss Labadie levelled with a 35-yard drive.
The home side won it at the death, Legge heading home powerfully from Sam Saunders' far post cross.
Tranmere manager Les Parry told BBC Radio Merseyside: "You're disappointed losing a goal in the first minute but it gives you 89 minutes to get it back.
"But when you lose one in the 91st minute, you've got very little time to get it back.
"I think that's four occasions now that we've lost games when we've either been leading or drawing when the fourth official's board has gone up - it can't carry on."
