A late strike from substitute Steven Gillespie secured play-off chasing Colchester a narrow win over Swindon.
Elliott Benyon nearly put the visitors ahead, but saw his shot from 30 yards parried on to the bar by Mark Cousins.
David Mooney put the home side in front from the penalty spot after Andy Frampton had handled in the area.
Scott Cuthbert headed in from close range to pull Swindon level, before Gillespie struck from 25 yards in injury time to clinch all three points.
Colchester United manager John Ward told BBC Essex: "It is good because we have won the game, OK we have not played particularly well.
"We look at the result tomorrow and it says we won 2-1, OK we will take that.
"One thing you will not accuse my team of, is not trying."
Swindon Town manager Danny Wilson told BBC Wiltshire: "We talk about commitment and enthusiasm, desire. Everything was there today. I feel so sorry for the lads.
"We've had two handball decisions that's not been given. It's a blatant handball at 1-1. Some of the decisions are shocking.
"Over the game, I thought we were fantastic today."
